30. And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whososever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given you a knowledge and he hath made you free.
31. He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, and he hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death; and ye can do good and be restored unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.

Samuel the Lamanite preaches to the Nephites
I chose this one because it goes along with yesterdays and Elder Oak's becoming quotation--that we become what we choose and what we become is ultimately going to come back to affect us most powerfully in the end. While Elder McKay stresses the effect of what we have become on the world around us, Samuel stresses the effect of what we become on ourselves. Anyway, I think the two go together well and I'll try to keep with this theme for this week.
I think it's interesting that the scripture says that when we make "do iniquity" we do it to ourselves. Not a good idea. It makes me want to always think good thoughts, say good words and take good actions in order to be the kindest to myself because I like me a lot.
