1 But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and will send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.

I chose this scripture because it does not say that God will, necessarily, lift even the pure in heart out of their afflictions. Here the promise is only that he will console them in their afflictions. To those who are seeking to avoid affliction this might seem like a pretty meaningless promise. Even though difficulties are not always removed, however, consoling from God is a witness of his power and ability to answer prayers. It is, as most miracles from God, an internal, personal matter; one that does not carry with it impressive external evidence.
